I’ve always made things.

I grew up surrounded by creativity — my mum painted murals on our bedroom walls and made sweatshirts with our favourite cartoon characters, while my grandad filled the house with oil paintings, piano music, and songs from his male voice choir. They never worked full time in the arts, but they always made time for it — and I guess that stuck.

As a child I could spend hours drawing animals and trees, dreaming of being either an artist or a vet (I went with the less messy option!). I studied art all the way through school, but when it came time to pick a career, I ended up following a more "sensible" path — first into architecture, then teaching. I spent eight lovely, paint-splattered years in primary schools, leading the art curriculum and running after-school clubs, with a classroom that always smelled faintly of PVA glue.

After my daughter was born, I stepped away from teaching and found myself gravitating back to murals — first in her bedroom, then in friends’ homes, then in preschools and pubs. The first official commission I took was for a local pub, and something just clicked. I’d finally found that magic mix of art, design, and real-world purpose.

Since then I’ve painted murals for schools, councils, community groups and families — and with my brilliant friend Hollie, I co-founded Community Murals, where we design big, joyful artworks for people to help paint together.

In 2024, I fell completely in love with traditional signwriting after a course with the amazing Joby Carter — and I haven’t looked back. I now split my time between murals and signs: one big and bold, the other slow and precise. Both deeply satisfying.

It’s been a winding road, but I feel unbelievably lucky to do this full time — and to still be learning every step of the way.
